I am back in London after spending a few restful September weeks in my hometown of Stockholm. This is always my favourite time to go and also when I think the city looks its most beautiful. There is a new freshness to the air coming in from the sea, and the colour of the leaves have just started turning but it doesn't feel like full on autumn yet - you can still pick a bright bouquet of flowers at Rosedahls Trädgård. It is when people still take their Fika (coffee and cinnamon bun for me) outside bundled up in knitted scarves and jumpers, see friends for the seasons last few glasses of rosé or even take a morning swim in the lake before work. This is the time of year to walk everywhere and really enjoy what the city has to offer.
Read MoreAs we reach the half way point of arguably dreariest month of the year, seeking comfort and joy in the small things is more important than ever. With fewer distractions and a slower tempo, we can recharge our batteries and fully enjoy the pleasures of cooking hearty, nourishing meals, catch up with friends over a coffee or glass of wine, and sit down and reflect on what this new year might bring our way. When we eventually have to venture outside, it will be bundled up in soft jumpers and big fluffy coats whilst daydreaming about the warmth of the sun.

Unfortunately, swimwear for the last 50 years have been made almost exclusively made out of plastic based materials, with no natural fibres in sight.

LAY is London’s first tablescape rental company, which delivers colourful party settings straight to your door, set up by Jemima and her sister Alice. They both grew up in the countryside and were always encouraged to be creative whether it be mad Easter tables at home or over-the-top birthday celebrations; more was always more in the Herbert household. With a mum who had an amazing ability to make the little things feel special, how to make decorative dining tables and personal interior touches were instilled in them from an early age, and the interest grew even more later on when they started hosting friends in their own homes.
Read MoreWhilst going down one of many rabbit holes on Pinterest recently (this one concerned paintings of Victorian lovers’ eyes - can highly recommend) I discovered the work of artist Fatima Ronquillo. Read MoreI don’t know how many times in 2020 I made these cinnamon buns, but it is definitely one of the few things that I can now proudly add to my baking repertoire. Swedish cinnamon buns (they also have to include cardamom, an unusual ingredient for sweet things in this part of the world) are a traditional treat, usually consumed when having fika - a short break with a coffee and something sweet. Fika is an institution in Sweden and is a chance to catch up with colleagues, family or friends to share a hot drink and a sweet bun or cake, usually more than once a day. My mum even craves a pre-fika around 11 (I guess it’s her version of elevenses) before her proper fika in the afternoon. Anyway, these buns will make a perfect treat with a cup of tea or coffee, and making them is a labour of love so be prepared to devote a few hours in total to create these heavenly cinnamon swirls.
