Style

The Nancy blouse is created using Elysian, one of Liberty’s most iconic floral prints. Inspired by Hungarian and Romanian peasant blouses, it flows in an a-line shape with intricate pleating and gathered shoulders. The wide cut and loose arms makes this piece suitable for most sizes. The upper body is lined with Elysian fabric and finished with french seams on the inside. Vintage Rivershell pearl buttons run down the front and on each cuff, with one heart shaped Sigrid Maria signature button for luck! The added Peter Pan collar gives this blouse a classic feel, and it can be styled over a thin roll neck in the winter or worn as a light jacket in the summer. Named after English novelist and Bright Young Thing Nancy Mitford, this blouse is handmade in East London and takes six hours to create.

Fabric

The fabric is Liberty Jubilee which is a cotton/wool blend that is no longer in production. It is soft, medium weight, and has a brushed texture. The floral Elysian pattern is from the Liberty archive and was created in the 1920s and has been part of the Classics collection since 1979. We sourced nine metres from an old factory in Kent that has now closed down, and this fabric dates back to the late 1970s/early 1980s.

Vintage fabrics were made on narrower looms, resulting in a shorter fabric width to today’s wider standard. This means that each blouse requires three metres of vintage fabric, as opposed to two meters of new fabric.
