Iconic Interiors - Nathalie Farman-Farma

Farman-Farma has been printing enchanting fabrics since 2010, all inspired by her favorite folk traditions from Eastern Europe and northern Asia. Turkmen robes, Russian pinafores and Slavic embroidery all stand behind her creations for the brand Décors Barbares.

She prides herself on putting functionality before aesthetics and originally wanted to work with vintage fabrics but found that the fibre tended to dry out quickly as they were used. Instead she started making fabrics inspired by the mix of colours and patterns found in traditional Persian, Central Asian and Russian costumes, as well as in Ballets Russes designs. The result is euphoric patterns and textures, as well as the creation of interior spaces that would have suited Alexander Pushkin or Nikolai Gogol.
