The Wedding of Stylist Alex Carl - A Great Source of Inspiration

I have kept these photos in my inspiration folder for a while, and I love going back to them every once in a while to admire everything about this wedding. Danish stylist Alex Carl (she has worked for Artket, Rejino Ryo and Self-Portrait to name a few) married Jacob John Harmer in Copenhagen in the late summer of 2018, and it was captured beautifully by British Vogue through the lens of Polina Vinogradova. The dress is, for starters, incredible. It has a vintage feel to it and was inspired by Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s wedding dress, but is the creation of Self-Portrait’s Han Chong, a close friend who Carl commissioned to create the piece. She wanted the dress to feel effortless yet with beautiful details, and in that Chong has definitely succeeded. They decided on a silk sheath with hand-embroidered pearls down the side and a very low-cut back. Instead of a veil which Carl deemed “too fussy”, Chong made a beautiful cape that drapes elegantly down the back, complete with tiny embroidered pearls. For the evening party Ching created a transparent silk organza version of the main dress, complete with a dramatic deep v-neck lining and worn with pearl chandelier earrings. Probably just as well as by the end of the night, after hours of dancing with friends and family, Carl’s dress was 4 inches deep in mud - always a sign of a good party.
